I carried a watermelon

This watermelon happens to have grown in our garden. It's one of two that did; unfortunately the other one split open and started rotting while it was still on the vine. Also unfortunately, we brought this one over to Kevin and Gara's house on Saturday night and forgot to eat it. Very disappointing.

I've been quite the little social butterfly the past few days. Thursday evening I went out to dinner with a bunch of people from work, we hit up the 2 for 1 margaritas. Friday evening was claude's with some other work friends (he makes his own marshmallows now! Chocolate covered coffee flavored ones, mmm), then joined Alfred, Ilya, Mercedes, Kevin, and Gara for dinner at an awesome barbecue place. Saturday was a beach party for most of the day (flanked by visits to the museum to open and close, and pick up a couple bottles of wine for the road), then a power hour at 7 with the gang from the night before, plus Melissa and her new boy toy. Sunday was Turk's birthday, so we had dinner in his honor with Alfred's family after I got home from work. Busy, busy!

Sunday was also both Katherine and Jevon's anniversary, and Katie's baby shower. Many expressions of love and congratulations to all of them :)

black friday and beyond

Alfred made a pretty good purchase this year for Black Friday: a new TV! It's a 46 inch Samsung flat screen, and he got a really good price. He actually bought it on Wednesday night, but that's just a minor detail. It apparently already shipped, so we should get it this week! Very exciting! In order to rationalize spending the money on a TV, Alfred returned his fancy camera last week. He hadn't really used it since our trip, and we'll probably use a TV a little more, so I guess it all works out.

I had to work on Friday, unfortunately. It kind of sucked not having the day off, but at least we had quite a few customers so I was busy outside doing tours almost all day. It made the day go by quickly, that's for sure. After work Alfred and I met up with Kevin and Gara for the evening. We started out at Claude's, which is always awesome, and then went to a wine bar for some dinner and drinks. This place was a total cougar den, we were the youngest people in there by far. Alfred liked that, seeing as how he's getting all old and stuff. (kidding, honey!)

This weekend has been the epitome of laziness for me. I've had a bit of a cold, and Alfred informed me that I need to watch and delete everything on the DVR that I care about before he gets a new HD one this week, so it was like a perfect storm. I have literally been sitting on the couch watching TV (and occasionally knitting) all weekend. There's probably going to be an imprint of my ass on this cushion for quite some time. I did manage to step outside today for approximately 1 minute, so that was good. I've been following my usual regimen of Cold Eeze and orange juice for 2 days straight, so hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow. I actually really like to have these totally lazy weekends sometimes, and it was probably good since I'm sick, but Alfred has definitely reached his limit.

we had friends

We had a really fun weekend with Katherine and Katie. They got in Friday afternoon, and we immediately got started with the festivities by going to Claude's! After that we got a pitcher of sangria, at which point Alfred joined us, then we went out to dinner and a ghost tour.

Alfred and Katie were all sorts of cynical, but Katherine and I enjoyed the stories at least. She got some pictures of orbs. Whenever I'm on one of those tours I want to dress up and go roam around the back of one of the cemeteries to try to freak people out.

Anyway. Saturday was pretty laid back, we went to get pedicures (without Alfred), which was fun but a little weird. They apparently didn't have 3 chairs in the same room, so Katherine and I were in one room and poor Katie was off by herself. It was still nice to get our toes done though, we all picked nice bright colors. Very tropical.

Sunday we went to the beach, and Alfred got crabs.

Both evenings we spent at home, eating pizza

doing power hours

and on Sunday, playing Uno. Yes, Katie and Katherine have now been exposed to the excitement that is Speed Uno.

It was just really nice, we relaxed, had fun, and just enjoyed the company. It made me miss having lots of friends around.

Aw, so cute. We miss you guys!

work stuff

I forgot to mention that yesterday was sort of a big day at work. We had our annual homeschool day, which I sort of created a couple of years ago. It went really, really well. We made a bunch of money, which is pretty helpful. And everyone really seemed to enjoy it, which is good. Always nice when the customers aren't pissed off. I bought subs for lunch for all of the employees that were working the whole day. Then I found out that one of the guides was meeting a friend for lunch and taking the sub home for dinner. That kind of annoyed me. I wasn't buying her damn dinner! And then she had the nerve to say she was going to tack on an extra 10 minutes on her time card to cover the time it took her to clean up. Even though she spent the last 15 minutes of the day talking, when she should have been cleaning up. This is one of the people I did not miss when I was gone.

Also, we interviewed a girl to replace Cathy today. I'm really hopeful that we can hire her. She seems really great, plus we kind of really need someone. The owners finally talked to Cathy and told her she wasn't coming back to the museum, but they phrased it more as they were giving her a promotion and keeping her at the main office, where she's been all summer. On Friday at Claude's (did I mention I went to Claude's on Friday? Cause I did, and it was delicious) she was saying that she was worried she was going to lose her job, since they hadn't mentioned her coming back to the museum. So hopefully she's happy with her new position and everything works out. Eh, what do most of you care? Let's end on a more entertaining note:

I know, not my best effort, but it will have to do.

# 100!

Today's a big day! This is my

How exciting! And Alfred didn't think I'd last more than a couple weeks. Ha!

Unfortunately, I don't have a whole lot to say today. I need to talk to Bud and tell I'm leaving within the next couple of weeks. I'm kind of nervous about it, for some reason. But, the good news is, I'm going out for chocolate and champagne tonight!

That's what's in store for me. Mmm, yeah. I think I'm gonna get a dark chocolate passion fruit, a coffee, maybe a truffle... I can't wait!
