so exciting

We have a new president! Duh, I know, but still. All you hear about is how historic today is, but it really is pretty cool. I actually had no idea what time the inauguration itself was, I knew it was some time after 10:30 (cause that's what time my DVR recording started). I left the office at about 11:40 to run some errands, and since I had NPR on my car radio I heard that the ceremony was at 12. I ended up sitting in my car in a parking lot so I could hear Biden being sworn in as VP. Then they started playing music, so I ran into our downtown office real quick, and luckily they had the radio on too. Now, it just so happens that all but 1 of the people who work in that office voted for McCain. HA! So I got to rub it in a little and do a little victory dance when I walked in. We all listened to Obama get sworn in together, then listened to part of his speech. I was the only one smiling. A couple of conversations:

V: We'll see how you feel about him 4 years from now.
me: Not as happy as I feel today about Bush leaving office!

V: He pauses too much when he talks. I don't like that. Why does he have to pause so much?
S: He's preaching. Although Bush paused a lot too, didn't he?
C: Yeah, but Bush paused because he forgot what he was saying!
me: (cracking up) At least I didn't have to say that!

Then one of them started talking about how she's been nervous for days about something bad happening today. Another one started talking about how if something happened to Obama it would start a race war, and if that's what some black power group wanted (a race war) they would just arrange for someone to shoot Obama so that they could have their race war. Because clearly the best thing for a group wanting blacks to be more equal and have more power to do is to have the first President of African descent be assassinated on the day he takes office. I mean, come on. That sounds like something my dad would say. Just goofy.

Anyway, I'm busy watching the coverage that I DVRed now. So exciting!

I totally ran out of time to blog last night. I didn't get home from work until after 7, then I had to make dinner, empty the dishwasher, clean up the kitchen, wash a bunch of dishes, fold laundry, iron, and cut my nails. No time for blogging! See?

I made the same pumpkin sausage soup we made last weekend, but it was way better this time. We had another pretty awesome dinner tonight, I made Puerto Rican style chicken and beans. Then I decided to sit on my ass and watch SNL's election special from last night instead of cleaning the house, so luckily for everyone I can also blog.

We spent Halloween night at Ilya and Mercedes' house handing out candy to kids. There weren't a ton of kids, but there were enough to entertain me. I also got dressed up a bit. Apparently I looked kind of creepy.

Alfred dressed up as a toucan. It's hard to see in this picture, but at least it's a good shot of his beard. It's impressive, no? Mercedes was a lion and Ilya was an elephant.

As I was taking off my makeup, I realized that the blue around my eyes made it look like I had a black eye, and the red around my mouth looked like blood, so we had to take a picture of us simulating domestic abuse.

Saturday we took the rhino out to the land Max owns where we're going to go this weekend with Mike to shoot things. We had to scope things out and get the lay of the land. Then coming home that evening I got pulled over for having a headlight out. Damn pigs. Luckily he let me off with only a warning. This is the second time I've had a headlight out in my life, and both times I got pulled over. This time the light was out for only 1 day when I got pulled over. I bought a new one yesterday and put it in myself, and it actually worked, so I was pretty proud of myself. Max and Alfred also fixed a few other things on my car this weekend, it's nice to have working windshield wiper solution for a change.

Ok, back to tv. I'm excited about the election, but I don't think we'll actually find out who won tonight. Maybe tomorrow, if we're lucky. I hope it doesn't run on for days like the last couple. Exciting stuff!

heh heh, I said duty

I did my civic duty today: I voted! I had to leave work early for a doctor appointment and left a little earlier than I needed to so that I'd have time to stop and vote. It's kind of funny, I waited longer today, at 3:30 on a Monday afternoon for early voting, than I ever have to vote at my actual polling place on an actual election day. Weird. I wanted to try to vote early because by the time I get home from work on election day I know I'm going to be tired and not want to deal with waiting in line. I'm sure anyone who knows me can guess who I voted for. There was also an amendment against gay marriage, I voted against it (as in for the possibility of gay marriage) but it's not like there's any chance of it not passing in this crazy ass state.

I also hit up Michael's and Target on my way home. I could spend hours in Michael's. There were these really cute Christmas ornament place setting thingies that I almost bought, since we're having Christmas dinner at our house this year, but then I remembered that we don't really do assigned seating (we're planning on a mroe casual barbecue again) so I managed to stop myself. I did decide to start a new project, it's a baby gift for friends of ours who are having a baby this spring. I'm not sure if they know about this blog or ever read it, I don't think so but just to be safe I'm not going to mention what it is until I give it to her. How's that for some intrigue? I bet Lindsay can guess what it is.

Oh, I almost forgot to recap our fancy weekend meals: we had pumpkin and sausage soup for dinner on Saturday (good, but when we make it again I'm going to change it a bit to improve it) with some sweet potato custard for dessert (would have been better if I had halved the salt and nutmeg along with the rest of the recipe. yeah, oops), blueberry cottage cheese pancakes (with homemade cottage cheese, surprisingly good considering how weird the batter looked) and sweet potato pancakes (made using some of the aforementioned custard, they were ok) for breakfast on Sunday, then for dinner Sunday we made a chicken pot pie (I've been wanting to make one for ages and finally got to, we made it totally from scratch and it was damn good. Possibly the best crust I've ever made).
