d'oh

We're getting close to the end of the year, and we've only been to Universal once so far this year, so Alfred and Ilya decided we needed to take advantage of my other four free tickets before it was too late. So off we went yesterday. It was much less crowded than when we went last month; this is totally when we should go every year. It was great, the longest we waited for any ride was maybe 15 minutes. Also, I have a new favorite ride there: the Simpsons ride! It was so fun! It's a motion simulator ride that makes you feel like you're on all these different types of rides in Krustyland. The ride itself is really cool, a lot like Spiderman, but there's a lot of little jokes in there too that makes it better than Spiderman, at least in my opinion. We actually went on it twice. So fun. I didn't even really mind waiting in line because they show clips of Simpsons episodes while you wait.

Later, when we were on our way to go on Spiderman, a couple of Universal employees came up to us and asked if we wanted to go on Spiderman. They took us in through the exit and got on and rode with us, so we didn't have to wait in line. Then after we got off, they gave us 4 free express passes to skip another line later in the day. It was awesome! We used them for the Jurassic Park ride, although we should have saved them for the Dr. Seuss trolley thing. We tried to go on it 2 or 3 times, but decided not to wait in the line each time. Oh yeah, and we were drunk by then. Because, you know, Universal has 2 bars that have Happy Hour. I had at least 1 too many drinks. We rode the Dr. Seuss carousel like 5 times. We apparently sat in traffic for an hour and a half on our drive through Orlando, but luckily I kept falling asleep. I slept through most of the drive back, which is probably really good because I kept feeling nauseous. Anyway, good times were had all around. Thank you for driving us back, Mercedes!

sneak peak

Yesterday we went to Universal Studios with Kevin, Gara, and Gara's brother Bil. It was bloody hot, and surprisingly busy. I guess we shouldn't have been surprised by that, since Halloween Horror Nights is going on. Kevin and Gara came to our house Friday night and spent the night (we had homemade pizza for dinner, which was good), then we left nice and early Saturday morning after a breakfast of cinnamon rolls. We met Bil at the park.

There's a new roller coaster there where you get to pick a song to listen to on the ride. I panicked for a little while, trying to decide which one to go with, but luckily we were in line for over an hour so I had plenty of time. They also record video of you along the way, and at the end you can go watch it and make your own music video (which I imagine would be pretty sweet). So we find our picture and start to watch my video, and 3 seconds in you can clearly read my lips as I yell "oh f***!" It was awesome!

We made sure that we brought a camera into the park, and then managed to not take any pictures of us there. The only pictures I took there were on my phone, of the new Harry Potter attraction.

It looks pretty cool, but apparently they got rid of part of the park to build it, including the location of these photos:

Yes, they got rid of the cave bar that had happy hour, but there's still a bar with a happy hour in the area. So yeah, we drank a bunch. And ate a bunch. Then drank some more. No Ben and Jerry's, though. Fun times anyway.

This morning we went out to breakfast before Kevin and Gara headed back home. We've been planted on the couch ever since. It's been a good weekend!

water sports

Luckily we're busy making granola and on the phone trying to get our satellite service working again, so I got to finish this post! Finally! I've been intending to post these for years. Days, anyway.

So we got this really cool waterproof case for our camera, and Tony and Mike took it with them diving to test it out.

This is the same place Katie got certified last summer. This picture is so cool. It's looking up towards the surface from probably 30-40 feet down. I'm guessing, I wasn't there, but I've done this dive.

Ok, enough of that. What we really want to see is cute kid pictures! Here's Ella getting ready to go.

The kids playing under a fountain at the first hotel we stayed at.

We spent a few days at the beach, too. They loved the water (Ella especially, she was boogie boarding like a pro), but we spent some time playing in the sand too. Here's some evidence.

They just look like they're having a blast here.

And Mason, chill-axin' after a rough day of fun.

cathy's pictures

I just downloaded Cathy's pictures and wanted to add hers to Mom's from yesterday. First up, a couple of shots of Mike and Cathy grabbing hold of some double D's. And in Disney World, no less!

I just think this one's cute.

And now, back to the drinking. Luckily Cathy had her camera with her when we were out in search of dessert Saturday night. We made a stop at a gas station at one point to buy more beer (which we then carried up and down the road before hiding it in the bushes in front of the hotel) and for some reason Alfred bought a can of cat food. And then took not one, but two bites.

Ugh. Moving on. They gave us crayons to keep us entertained and out of trouble while we waited for our food. Mike apparently got bored by coloring on the paper table covering and went for Cathy's face instead.

And then I got my water, tried to take a sip, somehow stuck the straw up my nose, and then dumped it into my lap.

And one last group shot. Good times.

my bad

As Katherine pointed out to me today, I haven't posted in 5 days. I've just been so busy having fun and whatnot. Today was my first day back at work since last Thursday, and so along with the end of my 24 hour a day, non-stop fun comes the return of the blog. First up: Orlando!

Everyone flew into Orlando on Thursday, and we headed down there to meet them after we both finally got home from work. Clearly, we did some drinking. Friday we went to Disney!

The kids had a good time, although they got a little tired of walking at times.

That night, more drinking took place. Obviously. I think that was the first night we did a power hour. That hotel had a little balcony that we all crammed onto and got drunk on. We did a whole lot of swimming before that. Ella is a crazy woman in the pool. She swam non-stop for like 2 hours. It's no wonder she's so tiny, she should be eating all day to keep up with the calories she burns.

Saturday Mike and Tony went diving (they took our new waterproof camera case with them, so at some point I can post pictures that they took underwater) and the rest of us hung out at the waterpark at the hotel.

We had to switch hotels that day, then off to a pirate dinner adventure. It was fun, with an extra pitcher of beer. Mason was laughing his head off watching one of the pirates get whipped. How adorable.

And another power hour that night.

Ella helped us keep things tidy. She also earned some good money in tips by pouring us our shots.

We were using our new power hour program on the computer, so we knew that none of us were sober enough to drive by the end. So instead we walked around, up and down the road that our hotel was on, looking for some place to get pie for an early birthday celebration for Mike. Eventually we settled on Denny's, a mere 100 or so feet from our hotel, after walking back and forth for an hour or so. Mike went wading in the retention pool in front of the hotel. Alfred ate cat food. I think there are pictures somewhere.

And then we left. Tune in tomorrow for episode 2: the beach!

3 weeks later

I guess it's more like 2 1/2 weeks, but whatever. Here are some pictures from our trip to Orlando with Ilya and Mercedes. I posted pictures I took with my phone but actually hadn't looked at the pictures that Mercedes took until just now. There's some good ones! Check out our color scheme. Alfred didn't get the memo.

A reenactment of sorts. Surprisingly, we didn't run into a single other group of people drinking around the world this time.

Apparently I was a little backwards for this pair of pictures.

And Ilya made a friend. How nice.

On Sunday we went to Gatorland, which we hadn't been to before. It was fun, and good for a morning visit since we didn't want to get back home too late.

When we were still in the parking lot we could hear this weird sort of bellowing, roaring noise. It sounded like a sound effect from Jurassic Park. Once we got inside, we found out that it was actually the alligators making the noise. Weird. And interestingly, no pictures of actual gators here. Just some other pals that Mercedes and Ilya made. The baby goats were pretty damn cute.

and.... the end!

no pictures!

We got back from our weekend in Orlando a couple of hours ago, and never got the pictures from Lucy's camera! They're at a party tonight, but I emailed her to ask her to send them to me. Hopefully I'll be able to post some this week.

Anyway, we went to Orlando with Lucy and Phil this weekend. They came down and spent the night here on Friday so we could get an early start Saturday. We had a couple of delays Saturday morning, but were at the Epcot entrance by about 10:00am. We did a couple of rides first (nothing too vigorous, since Lucy's 3 weeks away from giving birth) then headed over to the world showcase to start drinking. Alfred and Phil were planning to drink around the world. In case you have not heard of this little adventure, you basically have a drink in each of the 11 countries (and 1 outpost, if you're not a wuss) in the world showcase. I thought about joining in, but (wisely) opted to just drink casually in a few countries as the drinks interested me. Apparently this has become rather popular, as we ran into people drinking around the world all day.

We started the morning strong in Mexico, with 2 beers for the boys and a frozen margarita for me. When they gave us our order, they mistakenly included an additional margarita - bonus! It was a good omen. We went on Mexico's ride, made a reservation for dinner, and moved onto Norway. Beers for the boys, nothing for Tracy. Rode Norway's ride, met a couple of guys (Jeremy and Jason) traveling the world for one of their (Jeremy's) birthdays, moved on. China. The boys got beer, I opted for some plum wine. While drinking, we met a couple of large groups also traveling the world, with matching t-shirts: some blue shirted fraternity group, and some green shirted friends celebrating the birthdays of 2 of the participants (Dave and Face, which was a nickname for Lisa). A couple of green shirts offered to sell me a shirt in the bathroom for $5. I think they may have been kidding. After China was the African outpost, which the blue shirts skipped because it wasn't on their shirts, but the green shirts didn't. Again, the boys had beer, I think I had a bottle of water. We lingered a bit in Africa, enjoying the non-professional drum playing by some kids. Finally we moved onto Germany.

Ah, Germany. We were looking forward to brats and a beer stein here. We ordered our brats outside and took them inside to watch the show. We were given quite the run-around while trying to order our steins, which pissed me off, but eventually someone came through. However, since the steins were 48 ounces, we ended up sitting there for quite some time. It really set us back, time-wise. But eventually we finished and moved onto Italy. Dave and Face were on their way out as we were coming in. By this point I was rather tipsy, having had a few of my own drinks and shared quite a bit of Alfred's stein. I went on an adventure to the bathroom, marched alongside the American colonial band, then sailed back across the ocean to Italy. I think the boys got wine. We stopped and got some coffee on our way to America, then had burgers and beer in the New Country. Oh, and some delicious, refreshing Coca Cola. I think the green shirts were on their way out here as we walked up, too. We lingered here a bit.

Finally we moved onto Japan. Here we ran back into Jeremy and Jason, who by now had made it to the second-last country but had to back track because Jason had skipped a couple of countries, puked, then had to go back to make up what he had missed. All the guys did sake shots together. I bowed out, as sake is not my favorite. Then we tried to ditch the J's, unsuccesfully, before moving onto Morocco. We got sangria there, which I sampled, then hunkered down to listen to some music and get rid of the J's. Next was France. Phil got wine, Alfred chose beer, and I had a frosty orange Gran Marnier drink. By this point, both Alfred and Phil were really showing their drunkenness. We were also starting to discuss our dinner plans, since it had somehow gotten rather late. Our Mexican reservations were for 8:30, and Phil particularly did not want to go back. After some discussion we headed to the U.K. Here we finally ran into the Dave and Face bunch again, who told us that the bars closed at 9. Our hopes for a Mexican dinner were dashed. A round of beers (and a cider for me) later, we finally staggered into Canada. Labatts all around! The boys were really quite pleased with themselves for successfully drinking themselves silly.

Our world tour complete, we watched some fireworks, did a bit of baby shopping, and left. We ended up at a Pizzeria Uno for dinner, and finally crashed at the hotel around 11:30. As Ellery would say, what a day.
